More importantly, students are loving the personalized attention they get and the support to study and travel internationally!
Most recently, Dr. Cruz had the pleasure and honor of escorting students to the annual conference for “Horizontes” hosted by The Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Ponce in Puerto Rico. There, two of Dr. Cruz’s esteemed students, Gibran Peirluissi-Jovet and Joyner R. Perez-Marrerro, gave presentations on their Spanish history research outlining the impact that Horizontes has had on their endeavors. They were also accompanied by former Cruz student and current law student Omar Carmona Sanchez.

Dr. Cruz has also taken students to present at conferences in Spain and Panama, as well as Puerto Rico. He encourages students to go the extra mile and to engage international experiences whenever possible!

In this companion volume to the successful Images of Enchantment: Visual and Performing Arts of the Middle East (AUC Press, 1998), historian and ethnomusicologist Sherifa Zuhur has once again commissioned the edited authoritative essays from noteworthy scholars from around the globe that explore the visual and performing arts in the Middle East. What differentiates this volume from its predecessor is its investigation of theater, from the early modern period to the contemporary. Topics include race and national identity in Egyptian theater, early writing in the Arab theater in North America, Persian-language theater from its origins through the twentieth century, Palestinian nationalist theater, and a survey of the work of noted Egyptian playwright Yusuf Idris. Other aspects of the arts are not neglected, of course, as further avenues of dance, music and the visual arts are explored. Marked by interesting and fresh perspective, Colors of Enchantment is another vital contribution to scholarship on the arts of the Middle East.

Edited by Sherifa Zuhur (2001)

Westerners often have only a confused idea of Asian art, one peopled with good-natured Buddhas, ferocious deities with myriad arms and licentious erotic prints. Now, this beautiful volume offers a clear and visually stunning tour of the artistic achievements of Asian civilization, highlighting the greatest works. Spanning an eclectic range of imagery, from the aesthetically classic to the intrinsically modern, Asian Art introduces the reader to the subtle beauty of Japanese screen painting, the elegance of Chinese calligraphy and the sensuality of Indian goddesses.
